Hazardous Substance Assessment (COSHH)

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) require all employers to protect their workforce and other persons from the harmful effects of hazardous substances used at work.

What are substances hazardous to health?

These take many forms and include:

  • Chemicals
  • Products containing chemicals
  • Fumes
  • Dusts
  • Vapours
  • Mists
  • Nanotechnology
  • Gases and asphyxiating gases
  • Biological agents
  • Germs that cause disease such as leptospirosis or legionnaires’ disease

Please note that COSHH doesn’t cover lead, asbestos or radioactive substances as these have their own regulations.

How can Universal Safety Solutions help?

Universal Safety Solutions’s consultants can conduct a full COSHH assessment of your workplace. This involves identifying all hazardous substances, highlighting the ways in which they can be harmful and advising appropriate control measures and precautions.
